Discovering Real Joy {Bible Art Journaling}

Bible Art Joy of the Lord Neh 8-10

I need to discover and to exhibit more JOY in my life. So, I am benefiting greatly from the sermon series my son, Mark Ford, is preaching at the church where he pastors, First Baptist Church, Longview, Washington (to view sermons, click on Sermons link). Nehemiah 8:10 is one of the verses he referenced. I like this verse especially because Nehemiah is not just saying that I can have joy because of God. He is saying that the joy of the Lord can actually be the source of my strength. I love that.

The introductory message of this series “Discovering Real Joy” included these reminders for me:

  • If you are a child of God, the gift of joy is in you. It is already there.
  • Happiness does not equal joy. Happiness is dependent on circumstances; joy is not.
  • Joy is not a personality trait. It does not mean being bubbly all the time (see Paul; see Jesus). It is a quest—something to search for and discover.
  • Rediscovering joy may not be easy, but there is joy in the journey.

Thank you for reminding me of those very helpful points with your artwork. The red makes the word joy pop :)
