One Little Word-“Always”

Always Journal Page 1 w border

I’m taking an online class with Carolyn Dube called “Use Your Words.” In the class, Carolyn encourages us to use stencils to create words. I will post this page in her Flickr group. But I realized as I was completing the “stencil” lesson that this page will work for some other challenges. I am linking this page to the One Little Word Challenge #68: Always.

I will also be sharing this page in my gallery at Split Coast Stampers, where I am creating an art journal page with a scripture verse for each month of 2013. In that faith-based challenge, I am making each of my 12 pages for 2013 from a scripture verse that contains the word “trust.”

This page was one of those that began as a disaster. I just do not like, nor do I do well with (aha, a connection?), spray inks. So, I used a lot of ink on the foundation of the page, but I covered it all with acrylic paints (which I LOVE to use). I also used some background stamps (with black and also purple Archival ink).

But the funnest part of the page was making some Gelli Plate prints on deli paper—that’s right, the paper that is between the slices of deli cheese at the supermarket. I bought a carton of those sheets to use between the pages of my art journal to keep the paints from getting on the other pages. But when I saw someone’s (can’t remember who) suggestion that deli papers work great on the Gelli Plate, I had to try it! Yep, works great! I love it because the deli paper is so thin and tissue-like that it does not create unnecessary bulk on the journal page. I used an alphabet stencil on the plate and then pulled several prints. I then tore pieces of the tissue (after it dried) and adhered it where I wanted it on the page.

I do every art journal entry as a double-page spread, but the right-hand side contained all the elements I want to show for the challenges I am entering.

Oh, and how perfect! I just noticed that the current challenge at Frilly and Funkie is Layer it On and Share a Word! That’s exactly what I’ve done here: the layers include Dylusions spray ink, acrylic paint, stamps, Gelli Plate prints (on deli paper) and washi tape. The “word,” obviously, is ALWAYS.

I am also linking to Julie Balzer’s Art Journal Every Day.

I am enjoying my reminders to myself to remember to TRUST in God, and I’m glad that I chose that word for 2013.
