A Great Love

how great is your love canvas 2 w border

I’m working today on a canvas project (8x8), begun a few days ago, and inspired by an assignment in my Scrapbooking Your Faith class taught by Courtney Walsh. As a focal concept, I chose a song that has to do with God’s love. My motivation at the time was less than highly spiritual—I wanted to use a particular element on the canvas—the same kind of torn-tissue-covered heart that Courtney used in the class materials.

Not surprisingly, as I was working on the project this morning, as often happens, an inspiration came to me, directly related to what’s going on in my heart.

I have two granddaughters, each in their freshman year in college. This is a challenging time in their lives, and as a grandmother, I have a tendency to worry. Well, let me say, that I have always had a tendency to worry, long before I was a grandmother! But, now it seems to be multiplied, or at least multi-layered (my child +their child)…Yes, I know all the Scripture verses about “worry,” and I do try to trust more, I really do.

But today, I was thinking about (i.e., rationalizing) my worry about my girls, and was saying to myself, “But I just love them so much.” Bingo. Working on my project, it came to me: As much as I love my girls, God loves me, AND THEM, even more. So why can I not realize that He will take care of them. God’s love is greater than any other love (even than that of a grandmother!).

We have sung the song “How Great is Your Love” (recorded by Mercy Me) so many times at our church. Today, I am reminded that His Great Love can cover my granddaughters, yes, even while they are away at college!

How Great Is Your Love
My heart is steadfast oh God
And I will sing
With all my heart and soul
Music for the King
And I will awake the dawn
With my praise to you O Lord

How great is Your love
So much higher than the heavens
With faithfulness that reaches the sky
How great is Your love
So much higher than the heavens
With faithfulness that reaches the sky
O how great is Your love

Praise the Lord O my soul
And glory to the King
Forever You are robed with majesty
We come to you O Lord
And Lay our praise at your feet

Be exalted O God and let Your glory reign
Be exalted O God and let Your glory reign.

“For great is your love, higher than the heavens; your faithfulness reaches to the skies.” – Psalm 108:4 (NIV)

Megan,
I never think about someone wanting a tutorial, so I don't even remember all the steps. But, if you would like to ask me specific questions, I would be happy to try to answer! And thank you for the high compliment!
